Understanding Locksets

Understanding Locksets in Arizona

There are various types of locksets that can be used for security, and they have different functions that allow or restrict access, such as an office lockset definition. The lockset is simply the hardware that is installed into a door with a locking mechanism inside. Manufacturers use standard terms for their different products, and they usually describe how the door needs to work. Here is a table of the different locksets Our Locksmiths can provide you with ; listed along with the categories they belong to:

Deadbolt-Free Locksets

Classroom Lockset Definition

Unless the outside grip is locked by the outside key, both grips will work to retract the latch bolt.

Classroom Security Lockset Definition

The inside grip will always open the door. The outside grip can be locked by both an inside and outside key. If unlocked, the outside grip will also retract the latch bolt.

Privacy Lockset Definition

Both the inside and outside grips will open the door unless the inside button, key or thumb-turn has locked the outside grip. Using the inside grip will unlock the outside grip, as will an emergency release tool.

Institutional Lockset Definition

Both grips are rigid and a key can be used from either side to retract the latch bolt.

Office Lockset Definition

Each grip will open the door unless the outside grip is locked by a toggle or outside key. Using the inside grip will not unlock the outside grip.

Storeroom Lockset Definition

Only the inside grip or outside key will open the door. An outside grip can be provided, but will always remain rigid.

Public Restroom Lockset Definition

The latch bolt will retract when you use the inside grip or an outside key. The outside grip will work unless it is locked with a key from the inside. The outside grip will never lock using a key from the outside.

Passage Lockset Definition

Both the inside and outside grips will work to turn the latch bolt.

Deadbolt Locksets

Dormitory Lockset Definition

An outside key or inside thumb-turn will move the deadbolt. If the deadbolt is active, the outside grip will remain locked and the latch bolt will not work. If the deadbolt is retracted, the latch bolt will turn using either grip. The inside grip will always open the deadbolt and latch bolt simultaneously.

Storeroom Lockset Definition

The latch and deadbolt work independently of each other. Both grips will retract the latch bolt, while an outside key or inside key (can be an inside thumb-turn) will move the deadbolt.

Apartment Lockset Definition

The deadbolt can be locked with an outside key or inside thumb-turn. The outside grip will be locked and the latch bolt will not work if the deadbolt is engaged, but the inside grip will override them.

Store Door Lockset Definition

The grips on both sides will retract the latch bolt, while a key used from either side will manoeuvre the deadbolt. Each bolt works independently of the other.

Classroom Security Lockset Definition

A key used on either side will work the deadbolt, yet the latch bolt will not work from the outside if the deadbolt is engaged. The inside grip will always open the deadbolt and the latch bolt, but it will leave the outside grip unlocked.

Deadbolt-Only Locksets

Classroom Deadlock Definition

An outside key will move the deadbolt either way; while an inside thumb-turn will only retract the deadbolt. If you need to engage the deadbolt from the inside, then an inside key is optional and will work.

Deadlock Definition

The deadbolt is moved using an outside key. An inside key or thumb-turn can be provided if you wish it to function from the inside as well.

The right lockset will depend entirely on what you need it to do. An office locksetdefinition is ideal for those with staff that tend to work late. They will be able to open the door from the inside when they leave, while the outside will remain locked. Whatever your requirements; there is a secure solution that will incorporate all of your needs. Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully before choosing the lock that is best for you.
